About
For 40 years, I drew political cartoons for The Boston Globe and The Tribune Syndicate, reaching readers of about 50 newspapers and magazines in the US and internationally. I loved the pace, the camaraderie, and the outlet for my outrage. I have largely left the world of cartooning for an exploration of drawing and painting, primarily in watercolors. The pace is much slower, the subjects less topical, and the sense of urgency comes from doing justice to my subjects, rather than a political crisis or a publication deadline. I’ve been fortunate to have some wonderful mentors and models, including cartoonist Pat Oliphant, drawing instructors Robert Beverly Hale, Gregory D’Alessio, and Will Reimann, watercolor master Marcelo Daldoce, and my father, Harry Wasserman, an avid amateur painter.
